It’s well-deserved and I’m very excited to see what else the series has to offer going forward! (If only I can get the next game to work before I start itching for more and just jump to 3.Your IP address has been temporarily blocked due to a large number of HTTP requests. It was genuinely a great experience that held up well my first time playing it, and I can see where all the praise comes from.
Though the melee combos seem a little basic by today’s standards, it’s just enough to keep you experimenting to the end of a full playthrough to see what works and what doesn’t. Having to aim before shooting/dodging was just snappy enough to work it into combos and pull out some last-second rolls, but just enough of a delay that you have to think it out instead of just switching to guns whenever you feel like it. The combat is a wonderful mix, split between tense, nerve-wracking duels when you’re not quite sure how a new monster operates, and the absolute destruction of every enemy in your path once you’re more powered up and confident. The old stone castle contrasts so starkly against the living, fleshy Underworld, and it really gets my heart pounding when it’s time to jump into those last missions. The setting does a wonderful job keeping you on edge just as you start to feel comfortable with those dreary stone walls, you’re thrown into a spacious outdoor arena or made to swim your way into a half-sunken ghost ship. The fixed camera angles worked well for the most part a few of the switches threw me off and made some nooks and crannies confusing (and re-orientating the controls was rarely smooth) but overall they added so much to atmosphere and feel of the game. I’m embarrassed to admit how badly the Marionettes in the first mission thrashed me due to intimidation alone, and the Nobodies will never not make me uneasy. After playing DmC I expected another button-mashing power trip, but instead I got a few moments of genuine horror and loads of atmosphere. Played through DMC1, loved every second of it. I played DmC (the “hair controversy” reboot) a while back, but missed out on the originals until the announcement for 5 hyped me up and I got my hands on the HD Collection. Since it seems like a bothersome post I’m also putting my thoughts on the first game just to offer up some conversation, so if you’re interested in that you can keep on reading!
I’ve tried searching for a fix for the last hour or so but haven’t found anything about the Xbox One version, only the PC port, so I figured I’d ask here. Whether that’s true or not, I’d still like to experience it for myself before I move on to DMC3, so if anyone knows a fix I’d really appreciate it.
The general opinion seems to be that DMC2 is skippable, doesn’t contribute much to the overall plot, and is just downright bad. The other games work fine and the opening cinematic for DMC2 plays, but as soon as it’s over it shows the title and then crashes, sending me back to the Xbox home screen.
I’m playing through the HD Collection on an Xbox One X, but now I’m on DMC2 and it crashes at the title screen every time.
